It is our role to harness this to understand and help shape a better world. The scope of research and expertise on display across our newly elected UK, Corresponding and Honorary Fellows shows the breadth and depth of knowledge and insight held by the British Academy. Welcoming the Fellows, the President of the British Academy, Professor Julia Black, said: "It is with great pleasure that we welcome yet another outstanding cohort to the Academy’s Fellowship. Our department at Queen Mary has a long-standing commitment to innovation of this kind." I'm excited to help strengthen these bridges. My own field, Linguistics, has enormous potential for integration across SHAPE and STEM - an area of particular interest in the Academy's new Connected Knowledge initiative. The Academy has a unique role in advancing SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) disciplines.
